Radical Prostatectomy Cost in India

Radical prostatectomy cost in India depends on the hospital, the doctors’ experience, and a variety of other factors, this cost may be lower or higher.

What is Prostatectomy?

Prostate cancer is treated with radical prostatectomy in India, which is a surgical procedure. Prostate cancer that has not spread outside of your prostate gland can be cured with this procedure.

The prostate is a gland located between the bladder and the penis in the male reproductive system. The urethra, which connects the bladder to the penis and allows urine to exit the body, goes via the prostate.

A surgeon removes the entire prostate gland during radical prostatectomy. They frequently remove tissues from the area around your prostate as well. Seminal vesicles (glands that aid in the production of sperm) and lymph nodes are examples (glands that help your body fight infection).

Making a surgical incision and removing the prostate gland is a standard surgical approach to prostatectomy (or part of it). This can be done using one of two methods: a retropubic or suprapubic incision (lower abdomen) or a perineum incision (upper abdomen) (through the skin between the scrotum and the rectum).

What is Laparoscopic Radical Prostatectomy?

Laparoscopic radical prostatectomy (LRP) is a modern-day version of radical prostatectomy, a prostate cancer operation. Laparoscopic radical prostatectomy in India, unlike the traditional open type of surgery, does not require a major incision. Instead, it uses modern technology like fiber optics and miniaturization to be as minimally invasive as possible.

What happens before Radical Prostatectomy?

Your doctor will enquire about your medical history before performing a radical prostatectomy in India. You will also need to inform your doctor about any medications or vitamins you are taking. Some medications, particularly those that cause blood thinning, may need to be stopped a few days before surgery.

Your hospital will give you specific instructions, including how long you should wait to eat and drink before the surgery.

You may also require the following tests to assess your health before your procedure:

  • Blood tests
  • A CT or MRI scan of your pelvis and abdomen is recommended.
  • Ultrasound and biopsy of the prostate.

What happens during Radical Prostatectomy?

During your prostate surgery, you will be put under general anesthesia (asleep). To drain urine, your surgical team inserts a catheter (a thin, flexible tube).

Your surgeon will examine your prostate under a microscope after it has been removed to discover if cancer has spread beyond the prostate’s margin or into the seminal vesicles or lymph nodes. It’s possible that cancer has spread if this is the case. You may require additional treatment in that instance.

What happens after Radical Prostatectomy?

  • After a radical prostatectomy, patients are usually discharged within 24 hours of surgery.
  • A drain may be used to remove excess fluid from the operation site. If you have a drain installed during surgery, it will usually be removed before you leave the hospital.
  • Your urine is still being drained into a bag by a urinary catheter. It’s possible that you will have to keep the catheter in place at home for a few days to a week.
