What Is a Liposuction Surgery?

The medical advancement of liposuction is assisting people in obtaining their desire for a lean, muscular body. Liposuction is a surgical procedure that uses suction to remove fat from specific body parts, such as the belly, hips, thighs, buttocks, arms, or neck. These areas are also contoured (shaped) through liposuction. Other names for liposuction include body sculpting and lipoplasty.

How is liposuction surgery performed?

Indications before surgery Before liposuction, the patient is placed upright and marked preoperatively. Marking might be carried out the day before on patients who are having total body liposuction or body contouring. Areas that will be suctioned are indicated with a circle.
Small volume liposuction can be done while moderately sedated and under local anaesthesia. Large volume liposuction calls for a general anaesthetic. Anaesthetic solutions are administered into the body to assist fat removal and lessen post-operative discomfort.

In order to remove the fat, a small incision must be made in a hidden area. This is called fat suctioning. A pencil-sized cannula is then inserted after that. It is connected through a plastic line to suction apparatus.

Only the “storage” part of fat is suctioned; the metabolic area is not. Each location receives this painless therapy for about 25 minutes. Once the suction is complete, a suturing stitch is applied to the aforementioned incisions. The suctioned area is then compressed as the dressing is then applied.

After liposuction surgery, the fat cells are permanently destroyed; nevertheless, new fat cells may form in the body regions, leading to weight increase.

Various liposuction techniques-

Liposuction using suction assistance (SAL): This is the kind of liposuction that employs a vacuum to remove fat and is the most popular. The purpose of this operation is to get rid of extra fat deposits in specific body parts.

UAL (Ultrasound-Assisted Liposuction): This technique uses ultrasonic waves to target the fat cells and liquefies the fat prior to removal. The fat cell walls are thereby broken by sound energy waves, and the liquid fat is subsequently suctioned out. It increases skin contraction and permits more precise fat removal.

Power-Assisted Liposuction (PAL): In this operation, the patient’s body’s fat cells are broken down and removed using a special cannula that produces quick, small vibrations. With the use of this technique, the surgeon is better able to regulate the liposuction procedure and perform the procedure to remove the fat more precisely. With this technique, the surgeon may remove more fat in less time, which leads to greater results.
Liposuction with laser assistance: A laser fibre is introduced under the skin to help melt the fat, which is then suctioned out using a cannula.
Liposuction is not a means of treating obesity and shouldn’t be substituted for a balanced diet and frequent exercise. Liposuction does not get rid of stretch marks or cellulite.
